Xishuangbanna Naka Village: Pioneering an ESG and SDGs Dual-Driven Practice Base

2025-03-10

On March 6, 2025, Yang Shan, founder of Youjia Nature Exploration, visited the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Shanghai International Training Center to present a special report on the sustainable development practice base construction plan for Naka Village in Xishuangbanna. The project aims to transform Naka Village into a pioneering base for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practice for Chinese listed companies and a demonstration base for youth SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) education, exploring a new model that integrates rural revitalization with global sustainable development goals.

The ESG practice base in Naka Village will leverage its unique ecological and cultural resources to develop three core areas: a Tropical Rainforest Carbon Sink Monitoring Center, an International Center for Ethnic Ecological Exchange, and a Demonstration Base for Smart Agriculture and Green Supply Chains. By collaborating with listed companies to build ecological restoration projects and developing ESG practices such as Pu'er tea traceability systems and low-carbon Dai brocade production, the base will help companies achieve dual goals of environmental governance and supply chain innovation.

For youth education, Naka Village plans to establish China's first "SDGs Ethnic Ecological Study Camp," combining the UN's 17 SDGs with activities like tropical rainforest restoration and rainforest rock painting. These initiatives will enable students to complete a learning loop from goal awareness to action through immersive projects supported by technology tools like drone remote sensing and blockchain certification.

The project has already established a four-dimensional linkage mechanism of "government support + corporate investment + academic backing + community leadership," positioning itself as a benchmark for the localization of the UN's sustainable development goals. The UNITAR Shanghai International Training Center has expressed strong interest in collaborating on this project, aiming to make Naka Village a global model for sustainable development.
